HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT SIZE FOR A LEATHER JACKET?

A leather jacket is an investment. Choosing the right size is essential to fully enjoy this timeless garment, both in terms of comfort and aesthetics.

Taking your measurements correctly

Before consulting a size guide, it is essential to take three key measurements:

  • Chest measurement: Measure under the armpits, around the widest part of the torso.
  • Waist measurement: Measure at the narrowest part of the bust.
  • Shoulder width: Measure from one shoulder point to the other, across the back.

These measurements should be taken with a tape measure directly on the person. Remember to wear a T-shirt or even a sweater when taking these measurements.

For even greater accuracy, other measurements such as back length and sleeve length can be considered.

Understanding the fit of a leather jacket

Leather does not behave like classic fabric: it does not stretch and takes time to soften. It is therefore advisable to choose a size that exactly matches your measurements, without adding any extra margin.

  • A fitted cut gives an elegant and structured look, ideal for an urban or biker style.
  • A regular fit offers more freedom of movement, suitable for everyday wear.
  • An oversized fit is trendy, but be careful not to lose the silhouette that the leather jacket naturally enhances.

Most of our leather jackets have fitted cuts, both in the men's and women's collections. Indeed, we use specific washing techniques to obtain aged and nuanced patinas, which so well characterize the authentic style of the brand. This tanning process results in the leather shrinking and thus the garment's cut. This is why it is often advisable to choose one size larger than your usual size in our collections.

Considering the specificities of leather

Unlike a sweatshirt or a fabric jacket, a leather jacket will slightly relax over time. If it feels slightly tight in the store but the shoulders fit well, it will eventually adapt to your body shape.
Lambskin and sheepskin are primarily affected by this phenomenon, unlike cowhide or buffalo leather jackets, whose hides are thicker and stiffer.

When trying it on in-store, pay attention to these details:

  • Shoulders: The shoulder seam should fall exactly at the top of your shoulder, neither below nor beyond. This is the most difficult point for a tailor to correct.
  • Sleeves: They should reach your wrist, with a few centimeters of play for arm movement. Tip: remember to bend your elbow to check how the sleeves fall.
  • Bust: When closed, the jacket should not pull or gape at the zipper or buttons.
  • Back: It should remain smooth, without creasing or excessive tension. Except in the case of very thin and supple leather.

Buying online: how to avoid sizing errors?

Without the possibility of trying it on, a few reflexes are essential:

  1. Consult the brand-specific size guide: sizes vary significantly from one manufacturer to another.
  2. Compare your measurements with the provided chart, rather than relying on your usual size. Note: remember to add a comfort margin of 5 to 10 cm for chest and waist measurements.
  3. Do not confuse flat measurements with circumference measurements: Our size charts display the product's flat measurements, particularly for the chest and waist. So remember to multiply by two to get the exact measurement.
  4. Read customer reviews: they often mention whether the model runs large or small.
  5. Check the cut: We add the type of jacket cut to each product page.
